Graphene will revolutionize the electronics industry in near future. It will totally replace silicon in near future.Graphene is versatile and promising materials ever discovered. Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov who discovered this was awarded Nobel Prize for Physics in 2010.Graphene is a single layer of carbon atoms which permit flow of electrons 30 times faster than they do in silicon. Its thermal conductivity is much higher than that of silver.
Since graphene have high conductivity there is no need to deposit copper or aluminum wires when fabricating a semiconductor as done on silicon based semiconductor. It is more environmentally friendly than silicon ones.Since Graphene is transparent it absorbs 2.3 % of light falling on it and maintains its 2D properties at room temperature unlike silicon based semiconductors.
Since Graphene is stronger and stiffer than diamond and it 200 times tougher than steel and mechanically robust.Like rubber it can be stretched by a quarter of its length. Its surface area is the largest known for its weight. Its unique flexibility will allows scientists to design computers and smartphones that can be folded into any shape.
Graphene based products may be available in five years times.
Graphene will revolutionize the electronics industry in near future. It will totally replace silicon in near future. Graphene will be used extensely in touch screen technology since it is cheap.Much faster computers, advanced mobile phones, radar systems will be manufactured using graphene materials.Graphene exciting new technology will change our lives in the 21st century.

Viagra is a very positive treatment working on erectile dysfunction (Ed). The medication works phenomenally powerful by functioning on the erotic abilities. Viagra condoms are the best solutions that functions externally by relieving arterial pressures and improving the quality of blood flow to the main sex organ. The condoms are internally gelled with Sildenafil citrate, the parent chemical that works on encouraging erotic pleasures.
These condoms works best by relieving internal arterial troubles and the best part, it relieves the troubles faced by men while consuming 100mg tablets. These external applicants work best by functioning on the penile abilities and curing the difficulties of impotence within minutes. This is a very innovative method and works best when used in a proper manner. Using Viagra condoms is very safe and secured. While the medications are concerned, lot of complications is involved right from the tolerating abilities to side effects and reactions. Condoms are the newly invented solutions, on which people are actually looking forward.

These exclusive solutions would prove as a healthier way to deal with complications like impotence. Soon, we can expect for many such inventions in the drug forms that would lead to an enhanced sexual well being.
To remain in shape, easy and fast weight loss diets have become a craze amongst several people. Time and again we have seen in media a new diet supplements like South Beach Diet, the Atkins Diet, the baby food diet and the Master Cleanse. The latest one is HCG Diet promises to help the dieter lose 1 to 3lbs per day. A.T. W Simeons a doctor who developed this technique believed that a HCG (Humanchorionic gonadotropin) hormone found in a pregnant woman’s body could help overweight men and women lose weight and keep that weights off after returning to a regular routine everyday. HCG is secreted by pregnant women’s urine. Anyone, who has attained reached puberty, can take HCG diet plan. HCG diet recipes consist of a very low calorie diet along with HCG injections or oral supplements.
HCG hormone aids in collecting adipose tissues from the body and converts into calories. Another benefit of HCG drops diet is that it suppresses appetite for a longer period. The decisive result is burning of accumulated fats and decrease in weight. The HCG diet does not take away your muscles or vitamins in the body ,but instead it strips away the fat that has been stored in your body. HCG hormones alter the metabolism in the body. Excess fats start melting to generate energy. In fact, the diet rectifies the hunger mechanism and diminishes the inclination of consuming high calories

As like many diets supplements, the HCG diet’s safety and danger remains the subject of apprehension for medical researchers. Five hundread calories a day in HCG diets is not adequate for regular functioning of the metabolic processes, which in turn causes cravings for foods, light headedness, weakness and irritation. This hormone is not approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for weight loss purposes. Using HCG as a weight loss aid is not scientifically demonstrated. There are no clinical trials that support the benefits ofHCG hormone in suppressing craving, burning adipose tissues.

People under HCG dieting experience the symptom of pregnancy, such as swelling of hands and feet, water retention and breast tenderness. Side- effects of HCG diets includes, headache, restlessness, blood clot problems and depression. Some patient experiences Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) which results in nausea, vomiting, breathing difficulty, excess urination and weight gain.

Natural way to weight reduction is the safest, but some people want it faster and easier. Coolsculpting Cryolipolysis is one of the method. This fat freezing Cryolipolysis is Non-Invasive ‘Cold’ Technology FDA approved method for correcting the body shape by shrinking the fat deposits.

Two cooling plates are placed between the skin to be treated and the temperature is set above freezing point. The cold extracts energy from fat causing it to wither and die. The fat cells are destroyed by turning the water in into ice crystals. These damaged fat cells are slowly digested over several months by our bodies and removed through the liver.

Neither anesthesia or needles are used and the session last not for more than a few hours. About 25% reductions in fat deposits from a single session is achieved . Number of session and check up treatment depends on individuals. Results are not visible for a few months due to the gradual breakdown of fat cells. Coolsculpting by zeltiq for fat reduction in abdomen will cost around $1,500 to $2,000.
This fat freezing zeltiq procedure does not damage the nerves, blood vessels and bones. This coolsculpting by zeltiq is alternative to liposuction. Coolsculpting procedure is performed in a doctor’s office, typically under the supervision of a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Patients can right away return to work soon after the treatment without any problems. Long -term benefits are reported from this cryolipolysis procedure, which is a now considered fast track method of slimming down safely.
It has been estimated that in the U.S. alone the geothermal energy resources are enough to power the entire U.S. for 30,000 years. To find a geothermal hot spot for energy generation, measure the helium isotope ratio in groundwater, and if it is high in helium-3 you have yourself a potential spot to drill. This technique could be used to map the potential of geothermal areas, and determine where geothermal technology will be most effective, hopefully with the least environmental damage, or seismic risk.Geo thermal is not just tapping into hotspots!!!!The cheapest most cost effective form of geothermal is simply using the difference in temperature between the earth and the air to produce electricity

Large reserves of heat reside as stored thermal energy deep within the Earth's crust. Mining this energy could meet a significant portion of the United States' future energy needs, at competitive prices and with minimal environmental impact, according to an MIT-led 18-member panel, which just released the first study in 30 years to explore the largely ignored concept of harnessing geothermal heat as an energy resource.United States is the world's largest commercial producer of geothermal energy.

How geothermal energy works:You drill several wells to reach the hot rock of the Earth's crust . These wells are then connected to a fractured rock region through which water can flow. This creates a heat-exchanger that can produce more hot water or steam than you can shake a stick at, which then power up electric generators at the surface. Unlike conventional fossil-fuel power plants that burn coal, natural gas, or oil, these generators don't need any fuel. Plus, they're not tethered to the same constraints as wind- and solar-based systems are, resulting in a potentially non-interruptible source of electric power. The environmental impacts of geothermal development are "markedly lower than conventional fossil-fuel and nuclear power plants."

"This environmental advantage is due to low emissions and the small overall footprint of the entire geothermal system, which results because energy capture and extraction is contained entirely underground, and the surface equipment needed for conversion to electricity is relatively compact,"
Potentially Our Cheapest Energy Source. Key to Energy Independence and Arresting Global Warming. There is progress to report. Many engineers and scientists the world over are coming to the conclusion that high altitude wind energy can play a substantial role in addressing the world's energy and global warming problems. There is increasing recognition that this energy source can provide the benefits of nuclear fission power sources without its dangers, and, after full development, probably more economically as well.

Tremendous energy can be captured from these average temperate zone winds, enough to supply all the world's energy needs economically. That the truly high energy winds are at altitudes miles above us, not just a few hundred feet where they can be tapped by rotors on towers, is clearly demonstrated in the form of detailed color charts calculated by Dr. Ken Caldeira, formerly of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, These charts show at what latitudes and altitudes this vast energy is to be found.

Our figures show now, that with the advent of very strong but light tether materials, through use of what is essentially existing rotorcraft technology, capture of high altitude wind energy should prove cheaper than as derived from any fossil fuel.In mass use, our calculations show that FEGs of Roberts' design should be able to produce electricity at a life cycle cost of LESS THAN TWO CENTS PER KILOWATT HOUR

If all costs are considered, including the true costs of nuclear fission, long range this will be the world's cheapest energy source other than the limited hydro sources and limited situations where surface based wind turbines may be the most economic in supplying relatively local needs. But, on a larger scale, our figures show that high altitude wind energy will be capable of supplying the world's needs at the best overall economics.

From Professor Roberts' preliminary working drawings of the next planned Flying Electric Generator rated at 240kW with rotor diameters of 35 feet. The total swept area for a Flying Electric Generator of the same megawatt rating as a ground based wind turbine is typically about a quarter as much.Yet the Flying Electric Generator would produce far more megawatt hours of electricity per year due to the much higher high altitude wind speeds and constancy.
And although the prototype will not fly for three years, killer Micro Air Vehicles, or MAVs, are much closer than that. British Special Forces already use 6-inch MAV aircraft called WASPs for reconnaissance in Afghanistan. The $3,000 WASP is operated with a Gameboy-style controller and is nearly silent, so it can get very close without being detected. A new development will reportedly see the WASP fitted with a C4 explosive warhead for kamikaze attacks on snipers. One newspaper dubbed it "The Talibanator.

Over recent months a number of people have seen insect like spies at political events in Washington and New York. Some suspect the insectlike drones are high-tech surveillance tools, perhaps deployed by the Department of Homeland Security. The U.S. Army is backing a project to develop robotic insects aimed at enhancing the military’s situational awareness capabilities. The autonomous, multifunctional miniature intelligence-gathering robots will be capable of operating in places too inaccessible or dangerous for humans. The robobugs could follow suspects, guide missiles to targets or navigate the crannies of collapsed buildings to find survivors.

The project is being conducted by MAST (Micro Autonomous Systems and Technology), a technology alliance funded by the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. MAST will research and develop various robotic devices capable of operating in both urban environments and in complex terrain, such as mountains and caves. The only problem, of course, is if the bad guys wind up with a few of these MAVs: "Big dangers can ensue from terrorists. For instance, using MAVs with small explosive charges to assassinate high-level politicians or to transport biological/chemical agents into protected infrastructure."Perhaps future wars will be fought by opposing armies of robotic insects.

Materials that directly convert radiation into electricity could produce a new era of spacecraft and even Earth-based vehicles powered by high-powered nuclear batteries, say US researchers.Electricity is usually made using nuclear power by heating steam to rotate turbines that generate electricity. But beginning in the 1960s, the US and Soviet Union used thermoelectric materials that convert heat into electricity to power spacecraft using nuclear fission or decaying radioactive material. The Pioneer missions were among those using the latter, "nuclear battery" approach.

Dispensing with the steam and turbines makes those systems smaller and less complicated. But thermoelectric materials have very low efficiency. Now US researchers say they have developed highly efficient materials that can convert the radiation, not heat, from nuclear materials and reactions into electricity.Liviu Popa-Simil, former Los Alamos National Laboratory nuclear engineer and founder of private research and development company LAVM and Claudiu Muntele, of Alabama A&M University, US, say transforming the energy of radioactive particles into electricity is more effective.

The materials they are testing would extract up to 20 times more power from radioactive decay than thermoelectric materials.Tests of layered tiles of carbon nanotubes packed with gold and surrounded by lithium hydride are under way. Radioactive particles that slam into the gold push out a shower of high-energy electrons. They pass through carbon nanotubes and pass into the lithium hydride from where they move into electrodes, allowing current to flow."You load the material with nuclear energy and unload an electric current," says Popa-Simil.

The tiles would be best used to create electricity using a radioactive material, says Popa-Simil, because they could be embedded directly where radiation is greatest. But they could also harvest power directly from a fission reactor's radiation.Devices based on the material could be small enough to power anything from interplanetary probes to aircraft and land vehicles, It will be at least a decade before final designs of the radiation-to-electricity concept are built.

Highway Power KinergyPower is a new form of alternative energy which is also an example of distributed generation. KinergyPower was invented by two brothers Stefanos and Dimitri Horianopolous in Greece in 2002. Their system uses a series of hydraulic pistons to absorb the kinetic energy from the motion of traffic and transform it into hydraulic pressure.“Wherever there is motion, there is potential for KinergyPower. Trucks, automobiles, trains, and even people all generate some level of kinetic energy. The heavier and more consistent the traffic, the greater the wasted energy and the greater the potential for KinergyPower. Our technology is the key to capturing and harvesting this energy in an efficient and economical way.KinergyPowerUSA has developed a patent pending alternative energy system that captures kinetic energy from the weight and momentum of decelerating traffic and converts it into clean, reliable, renewable electricity.KinergyPower is an efficient way to harvest energy that is generated daily -- but is currently untapped -- from motion in the world around us.
<script type="text/javascript"

KinergyPower is based on the idea of distributed generation and:

* Produces electricity at a fraction of the cost of traditional energy sources
* Emits no pollutants
* Generates no hazardous waste
* Burns no fuel
* Uses no water
* Harvests energy day in and day out regardless of the weather

The beauty of the KinergyPower System is in its simplicity.Hydraulic systems are one of the oldest and most reliable means to transfer energy. Fluids are hard to compress hence, energy is transmitted through strong hoses and pressure vessels for use in a variety of ways. If a person can use a hand lever hydraulic pump to move incredibly large objects, the weight and momentum of automobiles and large trucks represent tremendous energy potential when combined with the same principles.

Every axle of the passing vehicle depresses each slat along the entire length of the Kinergy Mat. Each slat depresses a number of pistons designed to support the overall system requirements. Each piston displaces hydraulic fluid in an equal volume to its stroke. That fluid is advanced through hydraulic lines and stored in pressure vessels known as “accumulators”. These pressure vessels contain both fluid and compressible gas elements allowing the system to collect and store hydraulic fluid pressure and meter that pressure as needed to a hydraulic motor/generator. Once through the hydraulic motor/generator, the fluid is held at ambient atmosphere in a reservoir to be sent back to the mat to start its journey all over again. The KinergyPower System uses the same pressure differential as conventional power plants except hydraulics are used instead of steam.

As outlined above, the KinergyPower System hydraulic system can provide ample force and continuous supply of fluid to run a hydraulic motor. The generator is essentially the object that the motor is turning. The generator is selected based on the needs of the site or in accordance with specified merchant power requirements and will dictate the number of revolutions per minute (“rpm”) and at what force (“bar”) is needed to start and maintain that speed.

Voltage, impedance, and phase will likewise be considered depending on whether the energy will be used by the site, transmitted to the grid, or both. Step up or step down transformers may be required to synchronize to an existing voltage if different from the generator. If power is used by the site, the Kinergy System is connected to the main leg of the switch gear while offsite power will become its backup. The entire electric system and connections are typically site-specific and require customization to meet each situation.

* KinergyPower Energy Carpets installed on only 100 meters of roadway with an average daily traffic pattern of either 450 cars or 4 loaded trucks will harvest and produce enough electricity to power one North American home for one year.
* A typical Travel Center located on a US Interstate that is visited by 3,500 trucks a day can produce enough electricity to power a minimum of 800 homes for a year.
* A bus depot with 2,000 buses a day can harvest enough electricity for a minimum of 160 homes per year.

Tidal Energy

Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun, and the rotation of the earth. Near shore, water levels can vary up to 40 feet. Only about 20 locations have good inlets and a large enough tidal range- about 10 feet- to produce energy economically. The simplest generation system for tidal plants involves a dam, known as a barrage, across an inlet. Sluice gates on the barrage allow the tidal basin to fill on the incoming high tides and to empty through the turbine system on the outgoing tide, also known as the ebb tide. There are two-way systems that generate electricity on both the incoming and outgoing tides.
Tidal barrages can change the tidal level in the basin and increase turbidity in the water. They can also affect navigation and recreation. Potentially the largest disadvantage of tidal power is the effect a tidal station can have on plants and animals in the estuaries. There are currently two commercial sized barrages in operations. One is located in La Rance, France; the other is in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada. Diagram of tidal turbine. The US has no tidal plants and only a few sites where tidal energy could be produced economically. France, England, Canada, and Russia have much more potential.

Tidal fences can also harness the energy of tides. A tidal fence has vertical axis turbines mounted in a fence. All the water that passes is forced through the turbines.

They can be used in areas such as channels between two landmasses. Tidal fences have less impact on the environment than tidal barrages although they can disrupt the movement of large marine animals. They are cheaper to install than tidal barrages too. A tidal fence is planned for the San Bernardino Strait in the Philippines.

Tidal turbines are a new technology that can be used in many tidal areas. They are basically wind turbines that can be located anywhere there is strong tidal flow. Because water is about 800 times denser than air, tidal turbines will have to be much sturdier than wind turbines. They will be heavier and more expensive to build but will be able to capture more energy.

Wave Energy

Waves are caused by the wind blowing over the surface of the ocean. There is tremendous energy in the ocean waves. The total power of waves breaking around the world’s coastlines is estimated at 2-3 million megawatts. The west coasts of the US and Europe and the coasts of Japan and New Zealand are good sites for harnessing wave energy.
Diagram of wave energy site.

One way to harness wave energy is to bend or focus the waves into a narrow channel, increasing their power and size. The waves can then be channeled into a catch basin or used directly to spin turbines. There are no big commercial wave energy plants, but there are a few small ones. Small, on-shore sites have the best potential for the immediate future; they could produce enough energy to power local communities. Japan, which imports almost all of its fuel, has an active wave-energy program.

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC)

Diagram of ocean thermal energy. The energy from the sun heats the surface water of the ocean. In tropical regions, the surface water can be 40 or more degrees warmer than the deep water.

This temperature difference can be used to produce electricity. The OTEC system must have a temperature difference of at least 25 degrees Celsius to operate, limiting use to tropical regions. Hawaii has experimented with OTEC since the 1970’s. There is no large-scale operation of OTEC today. There are many challenges. First, the OTEC systems are not very energy efficient. Pumping water is a giant engineering challenge. Electricity must also be transported to land. It will probably be 10 to 20 years before the technology is available to produce and transmit electricity economically from OTEC systems

Inventor Doug Wood demonstrates the solar dish's power by using it to set fire to a board held at the focal point.Team leader Spencer Ahrens fastens mirrors in place using wire and plastic washers.
A new type of solar energy collector concentrates the sun into a beam that could melt steel. Researchers say the device could revolutionize global energy production.

The prototype is a 12-foot-wide mirrored dish was made from a lightweight frame of thin, inexpensive aluminum tubing and strips of mirror. It concentrates sunlight by a factor of 1,000 to produce steam.
"This is actually the most efficient solar collector in existence," said Doug Wood, an inventor based in Washington state who patented key parts of the dish's design — the rights to which he has signed over to a team of students at MIT.To test the prototype this week, MIT mechanical engineering Spencer Ahrens put a plank of wood in the beam an generated an almost instant puff of smoke.

The thing does more than burn wood, of course. At the end of a 12-foot aluminum tube rising from the center of the dish is a black-painted coil of tubing that has water running through it. When the dish is pointing directly at the sun, the water in the coil flashes immediately into steam.Ahrens and his teammates have started a company, RawSolar, to hopefully mass produce the dishes. They could be set up in huge arrays to provide steam for industrial processing, or for heating or cooling buildings, as well as to hook up to steam turbines and generate electricity, according to an MIT statement. Once in mass production, such arrays should pay for themselves within two years or so with the energy they produce.
Wood said small dishes work best because it requires much less support structure and costs less for a given amount of collection area."I've looked for years at a variety of solar approaches, and this is the cheapest I've seen," said MIT Sloan School of Management lecturer David Pelly, in whose class the project first took shape last fall. If Xerox researchers are to be believed, promiscuous printing happens all the time. Based on studies at their own office and elsewhere, the researchers claim that up to 40 percent of all documents printed in offices are discarded within a day.

The company has a solution: erasable paper. Hailed by Time magazine as one of the best inventions of 2007, the paper is coated with a chemical that changes color when exposed to a certain wavelength of light but fades back to its original shade in 16 to 24 hours, making the paper reusable. Of course it doesn't last forever. Dirt happens. But a Xerox spokesman says the paper can survive about 50 passes through a printer.

The technology has been welcomed by conservationists who hope that it will lead to less paper being used in offices. The average office worker currently uses 10,000 sheets of paper a year, worth about £70."Re-using always beats recycling, and this idea could save businesses massive amounts of money as well as cutting their energy use. Anyone who prints documents out at work ahead of a meeting can see how useful this could be, and the same applies at home."

Erasable paper may save trees but not printers: Xerox research suggests you'll want to have a separate printer for disappearing documents. Send your document to the wrong printer, and you could turn your company's annual report into a daily report.
The trap will begin to catch immediately there is mosquito activity in the area. Female mosquitoes looking for blood will be drawn to the trap and destroyed. The trap will gradually reduce your mosquito population as it attracts and destroys them. It may take 6-8 weeks of use to reduce the mosquito population to the point that you have successfully interrupted the breeding cycle. The Mosquito Decoy mosquito trap, uses none of these chemicals methods in the control of mosquito populations. Mosquito Decoy unlike many other products, it is 100% environmentally friendly.
Radical is an element produced when O3 is resolved and has sterilization effect strong enough to destroy protoplasm.

Merits of Radical Sterilization

1. No odor specific to O3
2. Oxidation speed is 17 times faster than O3, which causes no harm to the human body.
3. Fast penetration into protoplasm of germs and fast sterilization.

Ultrasonic cleaning has been used commercially in industry, medicine, dentistry, science, and the jewelry trade for decades for its effectiveness and precision. The Samson Multi-Purpose Washer is the first product to employ this technology specifically for homoe use.

Ultrasonic waves are sound waves above the upper range of human hearing, approximately 20Khz. Lower frequency ultrasonic waves have a stronger cleaning power, whereas higher frequency ultrasonic waves clean gently and are better at removing smaller debris. The Samson Multi-Purpose Washer generates mid-range ultrasonic waves in the range of 30-50 Khz, providing powerful, yet gentle, and fine cleaning.
Ultrasonic waves in liquids cause a phenomenon known as cavitation. Cavitation is the rapid formation and violent collaspe of micron-sized (1/1,000,000m) bubbles in a liquid medium. These tiny implosions release tremendous amounts of energy (temperature up to 10,000° C and up to 10,000 PSI of pressure), providing excellent cleaning power, as well as killing germs. The microscopic scale of this phenomenon prevents damage to the underlying material being cleaned, much like flying sparks produces by cutting metal fail to burn the skin. The micron scale of cavitation also allows it to clean affectively in narrow crevices, such as the layers of leafy vegatables or the space between a gem and its setting

The Samson Multi-Purpose Washer features sweep frequency technology to wash items evenly regardless of their location in the washer by varying the frequency of ultrasonic waves. The turbo mode cycles the power of the waves generated, alternately blasting away larger particles and delicately cleaning smaller particles. The combined effects of the three technologies in the 3D SOUL ™ system result in a cleaning and disinfecting solution unmatched by any appliance or chemical cleaner.

Researchers are reporting in the journals Cell and Science that they've transformed human skin cells into pluripotent stem cells, which could revolutionize medicine and potentially lead to cures for numerous diseases.
The medical ethical debate of using cells from human embryos to create, grow, and develop implanted replacement cells for damaged cells in living humans, may be over and with good reason. It was believed that the only way to get cells that could be used the create cells that function for different parts of the human body was from material that held the beginning of life. These cells were believed to be the only cells that were “Pluripotent” – the ability to be programmed to become a cell that would function for the specific function the group of cells to be implanted or replaced.

Stem (pluripotent) cells can now be converted from living human skin cell tissue. The skin cells, once converted, act as dynamic as original stem cells harvested from embryos but with some greater advantages.
Let us set aside the fact that once an embryo is compromised when the stem cells are harvested from the embryo (this means that the embryo will not be able to develop into a new human life), the stem cells that are used to grow the replacement cell structures, once implanted, stand a chance of being rejected by the human body in which the repair takes place. When stem cells are created from the skin of the human host patient and then used to create the specific cell structure needed to repair a damaged area of the same human patient, there is no rejection of the implanted repair cells.

Embryonic stem cells are valued above all others, because until now they are the only kind remarkably shown to be truly "pluripotent", that is having the capacity to become any of the 220 discerning types of cell in the human body. They have the undeveloped potential to generate new heart, liver, brain, muscle and bone tissue, and replace diseased or damaged tissue in people who are ill with cardiovascular, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and a whole range of the other diseases including diabetes.

The other advantage of the new method is the fact that using cells drawn from the patient's own skin, the stem cells can be customized to the patient, bringing numerous benefits, such as the elimination of immune system rejection.Further, even if the source skin cells come from a non-patient host show signs of rejection when implanted in the patient ... this is a far better solution than compromising an embryo and the potential of a new human life for the same result.Stem-cell research has the potential to cure such dreaded diseases as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, and could provide solutions to spinal cord injuries, leukemia and juvenile diabetes. Scientists are years away from knowing if human skin cells will actually work as a substitute.

Smart Sensors Automatically Control PlasmaPure While you Sleep

PlasmaPure's sensors are engineered to detect concentrations of odors (from pets, infants, cooking) and dust particles (household dust, pollen, tobacco smoke, mold spores) in the air. Once the sensors detect these contaminants, they adjust the inverter-controlled fan motor accordingly. The odor sensor is exceptionally sensitive to cleaning chemicals, formaldehyde, ammonia, NOx gas, and other smelling compounds. The microdust sensor, a technical marvel, is able to detect particles unseen by the naked eye, including pollen. The sensor uses an optical system with a light emitting diode (LED) through which the presence of tiny airborne particles are picked up.

Electricty in the Air: Using magnetic fields and perfect resonance, power could be transmitted from an in-wall unit to any electrical device in the room.Scientists have known for nearly two centuries how to transmit electricity without wires, and the phenomenon has been demonstrated several times before. But it wasn't until the rise of personal electronic devices that the demand for wireless power materialized. In the past few years, at least three companies have debuted prototypes of wireless power devices, though their distance range is relatively limited ]. Then last year, a team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology set the stage for wireless power that works from across a room.

The key to wireless power is resonance. Think of a wineglass that shatters when an opera singer hits just the right note. When the voice matches the glass's resonant frequency—the tone you hear when you tap the glass—the glass efficiently absorbs the singer's energy and cracks. Using magnetic induction and two identical copper coils that resonate at the same frequency, the MIT scientists successfully powered a 60-watt lightbulb from a power source seven feet away. The team called their invention WiTricity, short for "wireless electricity."If cord-free power delivers on its promise, our "wireless" world will finally live up to the name
The tiniest endoscope yet takes 30 two-megapixel images per second and offloads them wirelessly. See how it works inside the body in an animation Pop this pill, and eight hours later, doctors can examine a high-resolution video of your intestines for tumors and other problems, thanks to a new spinning camera that captures images in 360 degrees. Developed by the Japanese RF System Lab, the Sayaka endoscope capsule enters clinical trials in the U.S. this month.

Easy Pill to Swallow: The Sayaka is 40 percent smaller than previous endoscope cameras
The patient gulps down the capsule, and the digestive process begins. Over the next eight hours, the pill travels passively down the esophagus and through roughly 20 to 25 feet of intestines, where it will capture up to 870,000 images. The patient feels nothing.

Power Up

The Sayaka doesn’t need a motor to move through your gut, but it does require 50 milliwatts to run its camera, lights and computer. Batteries would be too bulky, so the cam draws its power through induction charging. A vest worn by the patient contains a coil that continuously transmits power.

Start Snapping

When it reaches the intestines, the Sayaka cam begins capturing 30 two-megapixel images per second (twice the resolution of other pill cams). Fluorescent and white LEDs in the pill illuminate the tissue walls.

Spin For Close-Ups

Previous pill cameras place the camera at one end, facing forward, so the tissue walls are visible only in the periphery of their photos. Sayaka is the first that gets a clearer picture by mounting the camera facing the side and spinning 360 degrees so that it shoots directly at the tissue walls. As the outer capsule travels through the gut, an electromagnet inside the pill reverses its polarity. This causes a permanent magnet to turn the inner capsule and the image sensor 60 degrees every two seconds. It completes a full swing every 12 seconds—plenty of time for repeated close-ups, since the capsule takes about two minutes to travel one inch.
Deliver Video
Doctors pop the SD card into a PC, and software compiles thousands of overlapping images into a flat map of the intestines that can be as large as 1,175 megapixels. Doctors can replay the ride as video and magnify a problem area up to 75-fold to study details.
Leave the Body
At around $100, the cam is disposable, so patients can simply flush it away.

A team of European scientists has used high-power laser pulses to deliberately triggered electrical activity in thunderclouds for the first time, according to a paper in the latest issue of Optics Express.

At the top of South Baldy Peak in New Mexico during two passing thunderstorms, the researchers used ultrashort laser pulses from a femtosecond terawatt laser to create plasma filaments that could conduct electricity--akin to Benjamin Franklin's silk kite string. The laser beam diameter was 3 cm, and the energy per pulse was 270 mJ at a center wavelength of 800 nm. The 150 fs pulses were negatively chirped to 600 fs. No air-to-ground lightning was triggered because the filaments were too short-lived, but the laser pulses generated discharges in the thunderclouds themselves.By tweaking these laser pulses in the future, Kasparian thinks they should be able to create charged channels of molecules that act like conducting wires, and provide the lightning with a path to the ground.

In these experiments, the channels generated by the current laser didn't last long enough. The team estimates that they'll need to boost the power of the laser pulses ten-fold. The ability to generate laser-triggered strikes on-demand could make it easier for scientists to study lightning itself.Triggering lightning strikes is an important tool for basic and applied research because it enables researchers to study the mechanisms underlying lightning strikes. Moreover, triggered lightning strikes will allow engineers to evaluate and test the lightning-sensitivity of airplanes and critical infrastructure such as power lines.

"This was an important first step toward triggering lightning strikes with laser beams," says Jérôme Kasparian of the University of Lyon in France. "It was the first time we generated lighting precursors in a thundercloud." The next step of generating full-blown lightning strikes may come, he adds, after the team reprograms their lasers to use more sophisticated pulse sequences that will make longer-lived filaments to further conduct the lightning during storms.

Pulsed lasers represent a potentially very powerful technology for triggering lightning because they can form a large number of plasma filaments--ionized channels of molecules in the air that act like conducting wires extending into the thundercloud.
During the tests, the research team quantified the electrical
activity in the clouds after discharging laser pulses. Statistical analysis showed that their laser pulses indeed enhanced the electrical activity in the thundercloud where it was aimed. In effect they generated small local discharges located at the position of the plasma channels.

Who hasn’t imagined living on their very own floating paradise? For those aboard .
Freedom Ship (upon its completion) will take floating cities to a new level and if the Living Residensea Floating Cruise Ship Condos'Prices are predictably high, ranging from 2.5 to 7.5 million dollars to own on-board condo .spaces. Activities and amenities on board include swimming pools, restaurants, tennis courts, a library, health spa, fitness center and even golf greens. Sure, it sounds a lot like a cruise ship, but it is also a full-time residence (and even tax haven) for many on-board.
The Freedom Ship project is a serious step up from ResidenSea but also unbuilt as of yet, though 1/5 of the on-board living units have already been sold. The concept? A mile-long,Energy self-sufficient floating city with absolutely everything included from parks and playgrounds to apartments, businesses, schools, casinos and shopping malls. It will also be fully networked for phone and internet communications. Rather than docking, aircraft will land to resupply the ship and deposit and pick up residents. At 25 stories high the ship would accommodate 40,000 full-time residents and 60,000 total occupants

More than a floating paradise this is designed to be a fully functioning and essentially autonomous city of relatively uniform architecture. Though funding is still needed, signs still point to the
eventual completion of this ocean-going wonderland.
The company's new battery can recharge 80% of a battery's energy capacity in only one minute, approximately 60 times faster than the typical lithium-ion batteries in wide use today, and combines this fast recharge time with performance-boosting improvements in energy density.
The new battery fuses Toshiba's latest advances in nano-material technology for the electric devices sector with cumulative know-how in manufacturing lithium-ion battery cells. A breakthrough technology applied to the negative electrode uses new nano-particles to prevent organic liquid electrolytes from reducing during battery recharging. The nano-particles quickly absorb and store vast amount of lithium ions, without causing any deterioration in the electrode.

The excellent recharging characteristics of new battery are not its only performance advantages. The battery has a long life cycle, losing only 1% of capacity after 1,000 cycles of discharging and recharging, and can operate at very low temperatures. At minus 40 degrees centigrade, the battery can discharge 80% of its capacity, against 100% in an ambient temperature of 25 degree centigrade).
Initial applications will be in the automotive and industrial sectors, where the slim, small-sized battery will deliver large amounts of energy while requiring only a minute to recharge. For example, the battery's advantages in size, weight and safety highly suit it for a role as an alternative power source for hybrid electric vehicles.
Toshiba expects that the high energy density and excellent recharge performance of the new battery will assure its successful application as a new energy solution in many areas of society.

Major Specifications of New Battery

1) Excellent Recharge Performance
The thin battery recharges to 80% of full capacity in only a minute. Total recharge takes only a few more minutes.
2) High Energy Density
Small and light, the new battery offers a high level of storage efficiency. The prototype battery is only 3.8mm thick, 62mm high and 35mm deep and has a capacity of 600mAh.
3) Long Life Cycle
A prototype of new battery (a laminated lithium ion battery with 600mAh capacity) was discharged and fully recharged 1,000 times at a temperature of 25 degrees centigrade and lost only 1% of capacity during the test.
4) Temperature
The new battery operates well in extremes of temperature. It discharges 80% of its capacity at minus 40 degrees centigrade, against 100% at an ambient temperature of 25 degrees centigrade, and loses only 5% of capacity at temperatures as high as 45 degrees centigrade after 1,000 cycles. These characteristics assure the wide applicability of the battery as a power source for products as diverse as hybrid vehicles and mobile phones.
Scientists have developed a microfiber fabric that can generate enough electricity to juice up a cell phone or a mini-music player. If turned into clothing, the fabric would get its power from the action of your daily movement. The material uses zinc-oxide nanowires that are arranged in pairs—one wire in each grouping is coated with gold, and serves as the electrode. When the fabric moves, the wires move and bend, and the fabric translates this mechanical energy into electricity.
